Tsvetomir Marinov - Kozloduy Seismic Safety Sistem

Ladies and gentleman My name is Tsvetomir Marinov, I am a specialist in hydro-energy equipment at the Nuclear Power Plant at Kozloduy and in the coming minutes I am going to present the seismic monitoring that we run in the Kozloduy Plant and the last details that I am going to mention here cover the so called "damage action plan", the Bulgarian law that governs these problems and the enforcement of the law in the case of Kozloduy Power Plant.

Seth Cropsey - The Social Impact of Eartquakes

I have experienced four earthquakes in my life. The first was when as a 14-year old my family lived in Berkeley California. Our dog used to crawl under my bed and scratch himself by rubbing his behind against the bottom of my bed. One weekend morning I was up early reading and felt the bed moving just as it did when our beagle scratched. "Stop it," I said. The bed kept moving. I looked under it. There was no dog. I turned on the radio and heard that there had been a small earthquake centered along the famous San Andreas fault whose closest point to Berkeley lies about 10 miles to the west. I was excited, but not frightened.

Professor Marmureanu - Vrancea Earthquakes Specifics and DACEA Project

Thank you very much for your coming here, this means people want to know more about earthquakes. I think time is too short to show what this system means. This system has been constructed by NIEP [National Institute for Earh Physics in Magurele, Romania] after a long European Project called 'Safer'. In a meeting that took place in Naples 2 weeks ago, the European Community authorities said that at that moment in the world there were two early warning systems in the world: one in Japan and one in Romania. Really, this is - I could say – a great success for our institute, and this project was made by a lot of people.

Klaus Bonjer - On Vrancea Earthquake Scenario

Mr Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am very glad having the opportunity of talking to you about the resul 20 years of cooperation between the colleagues from Bucharest, Sofia, Chisinau, Belgrade, Budapest, and Karlsruhe. This means that cross-border cooperation has started already years before the DACEA project became effective.

The topic of my talk today is:

"Shakemaps of Ground Motion Patterns of destructive and moderate size intermediate–depth Vrancea Earthquakes"

Concept, strategies, infrastructure and international cooperation

Hello Ladies! Hello Gentlemen!

We are honoured to support the initiators of this interesting and useful program, to both the authorities and first of all to the citizens. This is a General Inspectorate that is quite busy. The previous speeches mentioned the number of calls that our institutions receive. Since we are in the fourth quarter of this year, up to this moment the inspectorate has had 216 real missions in which we have saved over 7000 lives, we assisted over 70.000 people within the security systems that we have.

Dr.Eng.Constantin Ionescu - Technical Aspects of DACEA EWS

Ladies and gentlemen,

We thank you for taking part in launching our project. The implementation of such a project would not have been possible if it had not been for research and for such people as Dr. Solakov and Dr. Marmureanu and Dr. Bonjer who were presented this morning. Building an EWS [early warning system] is only possible if you have a very good infrastructure: it means having a good seismic network that can cover a very good distribution of the territory. And our institute has that, just like the institute in Sofia.

Colonel Alecu Savu - We Need Education to Mitigate the Eartquake Risks

Well, we've been listening to lots of things. We've been listening to how the population of various countries reacted [in emergency situation linked to earthquakes]. I would like to congratulate once again the organizers of this project because this conference takes place on the international day of the Risk mitigation. This is the International Risk Mitigation Day and the challenge that you launch is quite significant: we have people who react very well, they are professionals, people are confident in our professionals, but right now we need to focus more on the education of people.

Aurel Mohan - Gas Pipelines Are Safe

Well I should have had some materials but I don't. I am going to speak freely about TransGas. This is Romania's only natural gas transportation operator and that is why it has some peculiarities that I'm not going to dwell upon.

This national transportation system is a network of pipelines of over 13,000 km nationwide plus the related technical facilities. A segment of the national transportation system is interconnected to the national transportation system of Bulgaria since we are talking about the meeting of these two nations along the Danube. Well, in December 2010 together with our counterparts from Bulgaria, we proposed to identify a number of shared objectives that are defined according to European Directive No. 114/2008 and these are the so-called critical infrastructure objectives.

Alin Maghiar - Communication in Eartquake Situations

Hello I have a very short and dull presentation, I hope I will live up to the level of my previous speakers. I will start with the underlying principles of communication, which are used by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. I don't want to present a deep theory about this, but in communicating with the citizens before the disasters, and during the disasters and afterwards, you must definitely have some very good communications principles.
